Do you have a lot of personal photos saved on your Windows 11 PC? If so, check your snapshot’s EXIF data.

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data is a type of metadata recorded by the camera for the pictures captured with it.

Recorded EXIF data such as aperture, focal length and ISO speed provide photographers with invaluable insight into how they captured images.

Here are some different ways you can view and edit such data in Windows 11.

How to View and Edit EXIF Data in File Explorer

You can view and edit the EXIF data for your photos from their File Properties window in Explorer. Those windows include Details tabs that show EXIF information for the camera settings used to capture the pictures, along with additional image data.

You can also edit some EXIF data in the Details tab. Move your cursor under the Value column over the Camera, Description, Origin, and Advanced Photo sections.

You’ll see an Add Text box for any details that can be edited. Enter some text in those boxes to replace the information. These are some editable metadata values that you can change in the Details tab.

Most of the editable data properties are in the Description, Origin, and Advanced Photo sections of the Details tab. Tags, comments, subjects, and titles are additional metadata details that you can add to notes and for search purposes. After editing the properties, click Apply to save the newly added information.

Some users who plan to add their photos to websites or blogs may prefer to delete EXIF data for online photos.

You can also extract all possible data properties for a file via the Details tab. To do this, select Properties and the Remove Personal Information option on the Details tab to bring up the window below.

How to View and Edit EXIF Data with Metadata++

You can also view and change EXIF data for your photos with third-party metadata editor software like Metadata++. Metadata++ packs in more options for discovering your photo’s EXIF, XMP, IPTC, and GPS information than in Explorer’s Details tab.

Metadata++ will display the list details view of the files by default. However, you can change this by clicking on the Tile or Thumbnail button. Selecting Tiles shows photo thumbnails with some EXIF data information.

You can choose to export all EXIF data for a photo to a TXT file or an alternate format. Select a photo file, and click on the Export option. Click on EXIF to bring up a small Export Metadata window.

Choose TXT on the Which Format drop-down menu, and hit the Apply button. Then open and view the EXIF TXT file for the image in Notepad.

Or you can print the EXIF information on paper. To do this, select a photo to print data information. Then click the Print Metadata button at the top of the Data side panel.

If you want to remove all the information, click the Remove All (Trash Can) button. Select All Tags to remove all metadata. To delete EXIF data only, choose Tag type > EXIF. Click Confirm to delete the metadata for the selected photos.

How to View EXIF Data in Microsoft Edge

Windows 11’s default Microsoft Edge browser doesn’t include any built-in feature for viewing EXIF data. However, you can add such a feature to that web browser with the EXIF Viewer extension.

That add-on enables you to view EXIF information (when available) for photos on webpages and your snapshots within Edge.
